A Gala dinner to welcome the Miss Universe contestants was held at Vinpearl Resort in Nha trang city on July 5.
Present at the gala were deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Tien Tho, President of the Miss Universe Pageant Paula Mery Shugart, and leaders of south-central Khanh Hoa province.
At the gala, the Miss Universe contestants expressed their concerns about hot global issues such as the environment, natural disasters, disease and war. They also voiced their care for protection of children, especially poor children and orphans.
A gemstone portrait of Miss Universe 2007, Riyo Mori, was auctioned and sold for VND580 million which will be sent to the fund for the poor of Khanh Hoa province.
Earlier on July 4, Riyo Mori presented 300 mosquito nets to poor people in Khanh Thanh village, Khanh Vinh district.
